It's not surprising that this film was a dud, it really didn't have anywhere to go. A group of expeditioners go into a cave I mile underground, become trapped and then try to escape whilst getting picked off one by one by some undiscovered species that has evolved in there. It is not scary at all and barely thrilling, and it is always dark and all you see is flashlights and faces of the main characters. I could barely understand what the characters were saying and I had pretty much no idea what they were trying to achieve. There was no storyline at all and the acting wasn't anything special.

On the plus side, there are a few cool special effects and stunts, but nothing much else.

I liked the inside of the cave itself and the monsters along with their story, but the ending is left loose. I don't know what the point of it was.

A film that was released before The Decent and never really got as much press. I can see why though. I?ve tried my best to work out which one is better but I can?t. I?m going to say it?s equal between them. They both have stronger aspects to them. Maybe it was just down to marketing that The Decent became more popular than this one.
The plot written down is very good with some really great concepts. However, it wasn?t executed as well as The Decent was. The whole idea of them not really being monsters but humans exposed to some virus of some kind is excellent and the potential this film had was huge.
The acting is very good which can be rare in horror films. I love Piper Perabo already so she can do no wrong in my eyes, well she can, but she didn?t here. She was very good and although I don?t want to spoil the whole film in this review, i.e. stop reading now if you?ve not seen it, I was really sad when her character died. With this film, the strength was that you really got to know and respect the characters and therefore cared about what happened to them whether it was good or bad. I liked her death scene as well, very heroic rather than the sappy deaths you get a lot of where the actress dies in some humiliating way that makes you lose all respect for them.
Lena Heady was also very good and a strong character. I really liked the ending to her character as well, it really leaves things open, which nowadays, most films do for the sequel which no doubt they will make at some point. It would have a lot of potential as sequels go as you?d just take the virus concept and take it out into the world and although that has been done a million times before the idea of it not being zombies or mutants or something but humans who have gone through some weird evolutionary cycle. Definitely a film I would want to see.
A decent horror film that is worth checking out if you?re into that sort of thing. I have to appeal for people to stop saying it?s just a take off of The Decent as well because in case you didn?t notice this one was actually released before The Decent. If anything it would be the other way round.

I haven't seen it, but it sounds like an American remake of The Descent. Is it? And yes, I realize this came out first here, but in the UK The Descent probably came out first.
