It was ok... a bit weird really, strange artsy fartsy French film :D But not strange in a good way, not in a tim Burton strange. The scenery and music is beautiful, I loove France

Great movie! It hasn't rained in a long time, and the crops are withering. They must get rain soon, or find water, so that they will survive. A good story. Depardieu is fabulous in it.

Happy but poor French guy gets screwed over by his neighbor regarding water. Gerard Depardieu is very good in this.

Highly effective story about human nature: greed, selfishness, communal conservatism and all the other smelly things that makes the human race such a despicable species. Gerard Depardieu, Yves Montand and Daniel Auteuil are all equally brilliant playing the three main characters. Although this is basically a very dark and tragic story there is some humour (partly because Auteuil's character is sort of intrinsically funny) to lighten things up a bit. And the beautiful setting in the French provence brings some relieve also. I really can't imagine anyone NOT liking this movie. But although it can stand on it's own, you really should see the equally impressive part two, Manon des Source also. In fact, if they had been put together to make for one four hour epic I would have given it the full five stars. But you can easily fix that of course and experience one of the most brilliant works of the French cinema the way it should.

This is the epitome of French film, to me. However, if you see this, YOU MUST FOLLOW IT UP WITH MANON OF THE SPRING!!
